Fake search ads: how to spot a sponsored link in disguise

A fake search ad is a paid link placed above the normal search results and dressed up to look like a genuine site, while sending you to a copy. The simplest defence is not to search for the address at all: type slotkaki.shop yourself or use a bookmark you saved, and check the domain before clicking any sponsored link.

Why scammers pay for ads

Plenty of people type a site's name into a search engine and tap the first result without reading it. Ads sit above the ordinary results, so they often are that first result. Scammers pay to appear whenever someone searches for a particular brand name.

The ad does not need to last long. A campaign that runs for a few hours before it is spotted and removed can still collect passwords and payments. Some scammers also use cloaking: ad reviewers see a harmless page, while real visitors are redirected to the copycat.

The major ad platforms restrict gambling adverts heavily. That alone makes a sponsored result offering an online gaming site to someone in Malaysia worth an extra moment of suspicion. The same pattern shows up in social media and video ads too.

Check the domain before you click

  1. Preview the destination. On a phone, press and hold the link until its address appears. On a computer, hover over the link and read the address in the bottom corner of the browser.
  2. Compare it with the real list. The domain must match one on the official domain list exactly.
  3. Check again once the page opens. A redirect can land you somewhere else. Reading the address bar and certificate is covered in checking the address and certificate.
  4. Never download an APK from an ad. The genuine Android app comes only from the app button on slotkaki.shop. How to recognise a fake file is explained in the guide to spotting a fake SlotKaki APK.
  5. If in doubt, close the tab. Type the address yourself; it takes about five seconds.

Keep a bookmark of your own

A bookmark saved from the correct address removes the need to search every time. Save it only after typing slotkaki.shop yourself, never after arriving through an ad.

Afterwards, open the bookmark's details and confirm the address is exact. Android users who want the app can install it from the app button on slotkaki.shop, which removes any reason to search again.

Reporting an ad that copies a site

Most search engines put a small menu beside each ad, usually a three-dot icon, with an option to report it. Reports help get the ad taken down sooner.

Send a screenshot of the ad, including the search words you used, to Telegram @Slotkakiofficial as well. If you already typed a password or paid through a page reached from that ad, follow the first steps after being scammed by a fake site.

Frequently asked questions

If an ad shows the correct address, is it safe to click?

Not necessarily. The address printed on an ad can differ from where the link really goes, because of redirects. Check the address bar once the page has opened or, more simply, skip the ad and type slotkaki.shop yourself.

Why can the first search result be a fake site?

Because the top spot is often bought as an advert. Scammers pay for their link to appear when people search for a brand name, and the campaign only needs to run for a few hours. A high position in search results is no proof that a site is genuine.

I logged in through a fake ad. What should I do now?

Change your password straight away from slotkaki.shop typed by hand, and change it anywhere else you used the same one. If you made a payment, call your bank and NSRC 997 first, then report it to official support with screenshots.

Start from the right address Type slotkaki.shop yourself, save it as a bookmark and use that bookmark every time. You will not need to search for it or click an ad again.
